Mini Project Proposal: Digital Analysis of Trust, Risk, and Reputation in Undocumented Migrant Labour Networks

For my Mini Project, I ask Which economic sectors employ the highest number of unauthorized migrant workers? Because these workers are often hidden from official records, the data is not direct and will need integration from several data sets. By applying DH methods, the work combines public government datasets, OCR extraction of statistical tables, and Python-based NER analysis to explore labour patterns among migrants.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a cornerstone of artificial intelligence, serving as the link between human language and machine comprehension. Named Entity Recognition (NER) is a key information-extraction task within Natural Language Processing (NLP) that identifies and categorizes specific entities—such as people, organizations, places, medical terms, dates, quantities, and monetary amounts—into predefined groups

I compare how ChatGPT explains these topics versus how they’re described in DataCamp’s detailed blog posts on NLP and NER. My goal is to help readers understand both the technology and the value of seeking explanations from different sources.

Islamic Heritage Sites

This project asks whether it is possible to identify long-term trends in the share of Islam-related sites within UNESCO World Heritage inscriptions from 1978 to the present, and how these proportions have shifted over time. To explore this, we developed a Python-based workflow that processes UNESCO’s official site description files, extracts the year of inscription from the filenames, searches the text for Islamic keyword indicators, and visualizes how their relative share has evolved. The workflow focuses on changes in the percentage of newly added sites that contain terms associated with Islam and uses both yearly and five-year aggregated views to reveal broader patterns. To see the complete work flow of the project, go to Google Collab

  2. Boosts Brain Function Just like exercise strengthens the body, reading strengthens the brain. It improves memory, focus, and cognitive skills, and even helps prevent mental decline as you age.

  6. Encourages Critical Thinking Reading complex texts, novels, or articles challenges your thinking. It helps you learn how to analyze, compare, question, and form your own opinions.

  7. Better Sleep (with a bedtime routine) Reading a physical book before bed (not on a screen) can help you wind down and signal to your body that it’s time to sleep.

  8. Builds Empathy When you read stories from different characters and cultures, it helps you understand emotions, perspectives, and life experiences different from your own.

  9. Supports Academic & Career Success Strong reading habits are directly linked to better academic performance and sharper communication — skills highly valued in any career.
